How to improve your home in 2024 (without the overwhelm)

Have lots of things you want to change about your home?

Don’t have a lot of time or cash?

Me neither 🙋‍♀️.

When there is so much you want to try and change, but you don’t have the time or a budget for any large-scale projects, it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that it’s not worth changing anything. And before you know it, another year sails past without you making any progress towards your home goals. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Did you know that a series of small changes can actually make a huge impact over a whole year?

Just because you don’t have the pennies for a kitchen refit or a living room revamp this year, doesn’t mean you should write off your home progress altogether.

If this is resonating, then here is a technique you can use this year to help you get your home back on track.

How to improve your home in 2024 (without the overwhelm)

#1. Take a tour your home

Make sure everyone is out of the house and you are distraction-free. Grab a cup of coffee and a pretty notebook and pen. Now take a walk around your home, go into each room or space and take a good look around. Spend some time in there thinking about the positive elements first, and then what you would like to change. When you’ve had a good think choose just one thing you are able to commit to changing this year.

This will be totally dependent on your time, budget and resources. It could be changing the paint colour. Adding a lamp. Swapping out a piece of furniture or getting the curtains dry cleaned. Write it down and move onto the next space until you have been through the whole home.

#2. Create your list and prioritise

Once you have all the things you want to change review your list and limit it to twelve items. This is so we can allocate one for each month of 2024.

Next, you can prioritise the order in which you want to tackle each project. Again this will be totally personal to you and your lifestyle. It’s helpful to think about when in the year you will be best equipped to take on each little change, to give yourself the best chance of being able to achieve your hit list!

#3. Commit to tackling one thing on your list every month.

Giving yourself one month to complete each item should make your mini projects feel super doable. But if you don’t manage one of your changes don’t give yourself a hard time about it. You can try and do it the next month, or skip it and save it for next year’s list, or swap it for a change that’s more manageable.

The point to remember is that it’s better to make small, simple changes than to feel it’s all too much and achieve nothing at all.

🎄 If you stick to the plan then by the time you’re putting up your next Christmas tree, you will have made 12 small, manageable and positive changes to your home.

Remember. Small. Simple Steps. Because home wasn’t built in a day.

Happy 2024 😁
